A compact, semi-evergreen, bulbous herbaceous perennial with decorative foliage and uniquely colored flowers. Bulbs are 3.5-4.0 cm diam at first flowering, maturing to 5.5-6.5 cm, producing 2-3 offset bulbs annually. Leaves are strap-shaped, dark green, with a whitish-yellow median stripe running the entire length, two to four per bulb, 35-45 cm long, 5.8-5.5 cm wide. Scapes are 35-55 cm tall, 2-3 per bulb, each bearing four flowers per scape with pedicels 6-8 cm long. The medium-sized funnel-shaped perianth is 10-11 cm long, laterally 10-11 cm and dorsoventrally 11-12 cm wide. The six tepals are of medium texture. The outer tepals are 9.5-10 cm long, and 3.5-4.5 cm wide at their broadest; the inner tepals are 9-9.5 cm long, the inner laterals ca. 4 cm wide; the ventral inner ca. 3.0 cm wide. The tepals are striated with red-purple on both surfaces, with RHSCC red-purple 74A the closest, under-lain with white, and a purple picotee; the outer laterals tepals have a central white keel extending almost to their apex; on the other tepals, the white keels fades above the middle. The throat is green at the base of the tepals, with a short ring of fimbrae at the throat. Stamens are 7.5-8.5 cm long, white for most of their length, green in the proximal 1.0 cm; pollen is whitish-yellow. The style is 10-10.5 cm and colored similarly to the staminal filaments; the tri-lobed stigma is ca. 5 mm wide.
