A moderately tall bulbous herbaceous perennial. Bulbs are 4.5-5.0 cm diam at first flowering, maturing to 7.0 - 8.0 cm, producing 1-2 offset bulbs annually. Leaves are green two to four per bulb, 35-55 cm long, 5.0-5.5 cm wide. Scapes are 45-55 cm tall, usually 3 per bulb, each bearing four flowers per scape with pedicels 4-6 cm long. The spreading funnelform perianth is 13-14 cm long, laterally 16 cm and dorsoventrally 15 cm wide. The six tepals are of medium texture. The outer tepals are 9-10 cm long, and 4.5-5 cm wide at their broadest; the inner tepals are 12-12.5 cm long, the inner laterals 6-7 cm wide; the ventral inner ca. 5 cm wide. The tepals are densely striated a reflective purple-pink on their adaxial surface, with RHS CC red-purple 66A/B the closest match, under lain with a faint white background, but with prominent white keels that most pronounced in the distal half of the tepals. The outer lateral tepals have faint white keels. The inner lateral tepals are marked a deeper red on either side of the keel at their base. The throat is green, with a short ring of fimbrae at the throat. The tepals are lighter colored on their abaxial surfaces, with maroon keels and infusions of green towards the base. Stamens are 11 to 12 cm long, white for half their length, pale purple-pink proximally, green in the proximal 1.5 cm; pollen is yellow. The style is ca. 14 cm and colored similarly to the staminal filaments; the tri-lobed stigma is ca. 7 mm wide.
